ImmerseHER Project Launch.
ImmerseHER was officially launched on the 29th June 2026, we are delighted at DkIT.
ImmerseHER is a PEACEPLUS Change Maker-funded cross-border initiative, supported by the Special EU Programmes Body (SEUPB) - European Funding, led by Dundalk Institute of Technology in partnership with WheelWorks Arts. The project empowers young women through immersive arts, creativity, storytelling, Irish textile heritage and co-creation. Designed to foster creative agency, build confidence and amplify young women's voices, ImmerseHER will support participants to explore identity and living heritage, while building digital capacity for the creative industries and creating meaningful cross-border connections through shared co-creative experiences.
The event was officially opened by Cllr Emma Coffey of Louth County Council and formally launched by Cllr Andrea McKevitt, Cathaoirleach of the Dundalk Municipal District (2026–2027). We are very grateful at DkIT that they gave their time to join us and for their thoughtful and inspiring words about the importance of supporting young women, investing in creativity, and creating opportunities for future generations.
Over the coming year, 36 young women aged 16–25 from communities across Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland will take part in a series of immersive creative bootcamps — co-creating digital artefacts, making new friends, and finding their voice.
A huge thank you to everyone who joined us yesterday to celebrate the launch. Thank you to our partners at WheelWorks Arts and Jodie Coyne for highlighting the benefits of cross-border collaboration to communities in the North and the opportunities it creates for young people. Thank you also to some of the fellow facilitators Ciara Crawford Campbell, Heather Douglas, Maria Teresa Ruiz Cala, Robin Price and Jonathan Bell, and to Camille Donegan, who joined the launch for their support.
Jackie Toal, project lead at DkIT, said: "Cross-border collaboration is important to build kinship and new friendships. Exploring identity, Irish textile heritage and storytelling can be the perfect entry point to give young women creative agency. Using creative technologies young women will develop digital capacity for careers in the creative industries. We look forward to welcoming young women to the first ImmerseHER bootcamps in the months ahead."
